North Canberra Futsal (NCF) is a community club based in Canberra, the National Capital of Australia. Established more than 20 years ago, the club aims to provide a safe, supervised, controlled and friendly environment for young people to enjoy futsal (also called indoor soccer) in either a competitive or social game setting. Futsal is played indoors between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper.
Welcome to Season 2021/22
Given the rapidly changing rules regarding COVID restrictions we aren’t sure what the futsal season will look like. We had planned a twelve round season plus grand finals but won’t be able to confirm it until September at the earliest. So, at this stage we are seeking team nominations, which can be submitted through the digital form, and we will not open Play Football registrations until we know for sure that the season is going ahead.
This registration pack will provide you with all the information you need to nominate a team. The documents page has more information about the game of futsal, coaching and the NCF Competition Rules. Don’t forget to follow our Facebook and Instagram pages, they will keep you up to date with events and competition information.
What is North Canberra Futsal?
NCF is a community-based club run largely by volunteers providing opportunities for children to participate in the game of futsal. Futsal is a five-a-side game played indoors. NCF playing venues are:
- The Canberra Netball Centre, Northbourne Avenue in Lyneham
- Gold Creek High School (gym) located off Clarrie Hermes Drive in Nicholls
- Radford College (gym) located off Haydon Drive in Bruce
- Daramalan College (gym) located off Morphett St Dickson
What are the season dates (COVID restrictions permitting)?
The 2021/22 season will be 9 rounds plus Grand Finals and important dates are as follows:
- Season starts (Round 1) Friday 5 November and Sunday 7 November 2021
- Friday 26 and Sunday 28 November 2021; no games as some venues unavailable
- Friday 10 and Sunday 12 December 2021; last games before summer school holidays
- Friday 4 and Sunday 6 February 2022; games resume
- Friday 25 and Sunday 27 February 2022; Semi-Finals/Play-Offs
- Friday 4 and Sunday 6 March 2022; Grand Finals
How much does it cost to play?
The registration fee per player for U7 – U9 is $150 and U10 – U18 is $200. The fees cover Capital Football and FFA fees for each player, court hire, cleaning, equipment, wages for venue managers, club administrator and referee coach, participation awards and general administration costs. These fees have increased since the 2019 season mainly due to the addition of referee fees which NCF will now pay, rather than teams paying, to avoid cash handling on game days.
How do I join?
The best way to play futsal at NCF is to get a team together and nominate them early. Due to the popularity of futsal, NCF only takes team nominations and does not organise teams for individuals. We hope that no one will miss out on playing this season, but venue capacity means we will cap competitions at 12 teams in each division from U10 -18 age groups. In the U7 – U9 competitions there will be no cap on team numbers if there is venue capacity. Coerver Coaching will be providing a First Skills program for players from U4 – U7. This season the team nomination form is available online through the NCF website Team Nomination/Registration – North Canberra Futsal Once your team has been accepted into the competition the team coach/manager will be notified so that players can register individually on PlayFootball. Please do not register until your team has been accepted into the NCF competition.
What if I don’t have a team?
NCF is not able to guarantee individual players a team however, you can be placed onto a waiting list for teams looking for players and if room allows in any competition NCF will make up teams from individuals. Individuals looking for a team should contact the NCF Secretary at email@example.com
How many players in a team?
Each team must have a minimum of 7 players with a maximum of 10 players. There must be at least one adult over 18 years of age listed for every team and an adult coach or manager present at all
games. This adult must have WWVP registration. NCF runs junior competitions so all teams must always be supervised by an adult over the age of 18.
Are there any rules about what players can be in my team?
Yes, there are rules about player age, gender and playing status that are summarised below. The competition rules for this season give more detail and are available on the documents page.
- In NCF competitions, it is deemed that a player’s age is based on their actual age as of 31 Dec 2021 even though NCF competitions run into 2022. The minimum age for players to play in any competition this season is five years of age (2016 born) and the maximum is 18 years (2003 born).
- Male players are not permitted to play in female competitions. Female players playing in mixed or open competitions are permitted to play down one (1) age group. This season players are
only permitted to play up one (1) chronological year above their respective age groups in their gender specific competitions. Players are not permitted to play in any age groups below their
respective age group except for female players as outlined above.
- There are no restrictions on the number of representative or premier league players in any Division 1 team however, restrictions do apply to Division 2 teams. Any division 2 team with
more than one premier league or representative player (futsal or football, male or female) must not play in a Division 2 competition. Division 2 teams in breach of this condition are not eligible
What uniform does my team need?
Each team is responsible for providing its own playing uniform. This must consist of numbered
matching shirts with sleeves (U10 -U18 teams only), matching shorts and socks and the goalkeeper
is required to have a numbered shirt that is different in colour to the team playing strip.
No playing shirt is to be yellow. Yellow writing/numbers are acceptable. This is to ensure there is a
visual contrast with the Referee’s uniform. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Teams should
have complete uniform from the first week of the competition. No State or National Futsal
representative playing gear, will be permitted as part of the team uniform, including for keepers.
Shin pads are compulsory and a player without them will not be allowed to play.
